WP 8: Scientific Sector

Knowledge Discovery is a interdisciplinary area of research, drawing on results from database theory, machine learning, statistics, and other disciplines. It is important that it remains in close contact with the research areas from which it originated, both keeping them informed on advances in Knowledge Discovery and being informed in turn on advances in these disciplines.

Additionally, Knowledge Discovery techniques are highly relevant for research in other scientific fields such as:

  • Bioinformatics
  • Geographic Information System research
  • Economics and Econometrics.

These objectives will be achieved by KDNet Community by

  • organizing workshops and conferences
  • giving tutorials on neighboring disciplines
  • selecting ambassadors for disseminating information on Knowledge Discovery to other disciplines.

Scientific sector workshops are held in conjunction with public sector or industry sector symposia, or on conferences of neighboring disciplines.
