KDNet Overview
About KDNet
The KDNet (= Knowledge Discovery Network of Excellence) is an open Network of participants from science, industry and the public sector.
The major purpose of this international project is to integrate real-life business problems into research discussions and to collaborate in shaping the future of Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining. The project is funded by the European Commission under IST-2001-33086 and has started in February 2002.
Knowledge Discovery or Data Mining is the partially automated process of
extracting patterns, usually from large data sets. For more details, please have
a look at the Thematical Focus.
Knowledge Discovery has been proven to be a promising approach for enhancing
the intelligence of software systems and services. Research in this area is broadly dispersed over various disciplines, caused partly by the fact that an adequate
representation of the growing European Knowledge Discovery Community is missing.
To change this situation KDNet has been established.
Responsible is Dr. Michael May from the Fraunhofer Institute for Autonomous
Intelligent Systems (AIS/KD) in Sankt Augustin, Germany. Please contact the
KDNet Office , if you have questions related to the project activities, or to the
KDNet Community.
Currently more than 70 European companies, research and public sector institutions are
active KDNet Members. The number of participants
to KDNet international activities is continually increasing.
KDNet will play an important role in promoting and delivering state-of-the art
know-how related to all aspects of knowledge discovery. The research activities
and discussion meetings are proposed and coordinated by the community
members themselves.
KDNet members can benefit from the comprehensive OIS
with training materials, news & events calendar, thematical links, etc.
Interest group meetings and practical events will be announced and held regularly.
The information services resulting from these activities will be available to all community
members in form of:
Each company or research institute interested in Knowledge Discovery is encouraged
to join KDNet !
For further information, please contact the KDNet Office.
