KDNet HistoryKDNet (the European Knowledge Discovery Network of Excellence) is an EU-funded project, that has started in February 2002. MLNet Successor KDNet is the successor Network and at the same time the extention of the MLNet (=European Machine Learning Network of Excellence), which has been the largest Network of Machine Learning and Data Mining Community in Europe. Origins KDNet has started February 2002 with 29 Consortium members, which have contributed to the EU project proposal. Untill the beginning of 2003, the number of KDNet members has increased rapidly, forming now a Consortium of 72 European institutions. [report, 1.01.2003] The existence of networks of this scale, as well as the increasing number of institutions joining these networks, show that Knowledge Discovery or Data Mining has become one of the major research topics for the European research and for the worldwide market. Central Role The central role of the KDNet is to bring together researchers, industry and the public sector from different areas of Knowledge Discovery, in order to enable collaborations for future research and applications projects. The Know-how transfer between research, industry and the public sector has been one of the main topics for all KDNet activities. |
